emissions vs economic growth
Economic growth (measured by GDP) is increasingly not driven by CO2 emissions. source
Some people say this is simply because developed countries have offshored manufacturing and mining into third-world countries and thus "exported" emissions; they are mistaken.
This demonstrates that degrowth ideologists who scream propaganda like "infinite growth is not possible on a finite planet" are simply wrong. Technological progress essentially enables us to produce more with less inputs/resources.
girls and suicide
Suicide is rising sharply for girls and young women. Note that those are the groups of people least likely to kill themselves and absolute numbers are still way higher for men, so it could simply be regression toward the mean. source
Hormonal contraception increases women's (especially girls') risk of suicide 2-3x (pill 2x, IUD 2.5x, patch 3x) (the absolute risk is still extremely low). source
school and suicide
Kids kill themselves less often during summer vacation, when there's no school. Apparently, this was also the case when schools were closed during lockdowns (although 2020 was a special year, with suicides unexpectedly falling for mostly everyone). source
Kids also kill themselves less often during the weekend, when there's no school. source
This is not surprising, given that school is child prison (you can't even go to the toilet without asking for permission - how barbaric is that!?) and pretty much the only place in society where violence is acceptable (I've never again experienced as much physical bullying as in primary school).
computer science sex gap
Some journalists look at how few women are programmers and then lie about statistics and come up with convoluted explanations about how geeks are uniquely sexist.
The reality is much simpler. Computer Science became more like engineering. source, another source - section UNDERGRADUATE ENROLMENT (CS VS. STEM)
(Physics is right there with Engineering and Computer Science, but if you combine it with Geology and Chemistry into Physical Sciences then the numbers become much more politically correct.)
longevity vs fitness
There is growing evidence that mortality is highly inversely correlated with strength/power 1 2 and cardiorespiratory fitness (VO₂max)3. These studies try to control for both obvious confounders like sex, age, smoking and obesity, and sometimes also more subtle confounders like medical conditions (people who are already ill have lower muscle mass) and socioeconomic status (rich people have more time to exercise and also experience less stress, itself a major cause of health issues).
Fitness is also required to maintain quality of life and continue to be able to engage in everyday activities as we age. source
